Established in 1996, Shanghai World Foreign Language Academy (WFLA) is now a renowned private secondary school acclaimed for its high academic standards in Shanghai, China. In 2005, WFLA became a member entity of JuneYao Group. Its Middle Years Program (MYP) and the Diploma Program (DP) were certified by the International Baccalaureate Organization in 2005 and 2009 respectively. In 2020, its A-Level curriculum was certified by Cambridge Assessment International Education and became another component of the WFLA curricular system. WFLA is also one of earliest bilingual model schools in Shanghai, and is a member school of UNESCO Associated Schools Network.

Under the guidance of the school Board of Directors, WFLA sets its educational mission as “The cultivation of modern Chinese talents with global perspectives”. The aim of its educational practices is to have students display qualities of compassion, elegance, and generosity. Since its inception, WFLA has instilled into its teaching philosophy the principle of “Participation & Practice” and later incorporated the concept of “Cooperation & Creativity” as its extended principle. Upholding core values of “Justice, Openness, Generosity, Gratitude, Fortitude, Responsibility,” WLFA encourages students to take the initiative, practice creativity, and actively engage in teamwork so as to further enhance students’ integrated competence and embody the spirit of exploration in education. WFLA is dedicated to becoming a "Hundred-Year-Old Renowned School" that is dynamic, innovative, and mission-oriented.

In 2024, WLFA has a total of 2,400 students. The faculty team consists of about 330 teachers, among whom 20 are overseas teachers. The high school division (10th to 12th grades) has about 110 teachers, and ten of them are overseas teachers. The faculty team boasts more than 20 key teachers, who are recognized at the district level and beyond. It is also one of the first batch of schools that are exemplary for its teacher development in Xuhui District. Also, the IBDP department houses 43 IB examiners from various subjects, ranging from Chinese A/B, English A/B, Mathematics, Physics, to Chemistry, Biology, Economics, from Business Management, History, Foreign Languages, to Visual Arts and TOK, with one being a principal examiner.

The International Integrated Curriculum (IIC) for the high school level is a program that blends the elements of both DP and A-Level curriculums and is implemented locally. The program not only encompasses the core characteristics of high academic standards and international orientation from both the IBDP and A-Level curriculums but also the core elements of the Chinese National Curriculum for high school. While the objectives of the six balanced curricular components of IBDP are to equip students with all-round capabilities geared towards international scenarios, the national curricular component aims to solidify students’ understanding of their own culture. The IBDP curriculum allows students to choose different levels of courses (standard level and higher level). Except for Chinese A/B, TOK and components of the national curriculum, all others courses use textbooks written in English and are instructed in English. The Cambridge AS & A-Level curriculum aspires to empower students with deep learning capability, college-level foundational knowledge, as well as thinking and communication abilities. The curriculum also uses English textbooks and has English as its language of instruction while at the same time blending applicable essential elements from the IBDP curriculumand the national curriculum. Graduates of both curriculums enable students to apply for colleges all over the world.
